Powder To The People!

Color Run
Ooh, pretty colours!!! Now that looks fun! :0)
Lots of colour,
an obstacle course,
glitter,
and friends all in the mix! One big party, yes?
Well, as the Churchill dog says, “No, No, No, No No!”
You must have forgotten about the 5K run then Kirsten! Sorry, FUN run ;0)
I keep myself reasonably fit by working out most days ~ But I HATE running!
I know 5K may be like a walk in the park for many but I know that unless you do the exact exercise you plan to do at an event, it’s a very different ball game! After a trial run around my local park with my son who actually lapped me, [laughing] (I blame his long legs, being over 6ft and my short little legs!) I realise I need to get some practice in. At school I was always fairly good and quite fast at sprinting but useless at long distance. What have I let myself in for?
I’m quite a disciplined person when it comes down to working out at home but knew I wouldn’t venture out the front door every day to embrace the park with the dog walkers and the like. I’m used to getting extremely sweaty and red faced with Shaun T‘s Insanity, T25 (love you Shaun T!) or with Charlene Johnson’s PIYO workout (all from Beachbody).
Mmm….. time to invest in a treadmill me thinks! Ebay here I come ~ there must be many a treadmill used to hang clothes on surely? After an exhilarating bidding war (I’ve obviously not bought off ebay before!) I collect the EXTREMELY heavy beast that thankfully got in the back of my car and thankfully didn’t need to be carried far from the front door! Oh yes, no hiding in the back room for this one ~ it’s huge! My lounge usually has weights in the corner etc but this monster takes the biscuit! No forgetting to take a run now ;0)
Now my Reebok IRun and I need to make friends.
I must be able to learn to love running!
Surely if I stick with it…… 8 weeks to go…
Music….. Must must must have loud funky music!!!!
Right, let’s start with changing the mindset ~ “I am a runner. I love running. I run with ease and grace.”
Ok, why not make this a meditation practice. One where I can zone out completely or even get lost in my thoughts or the music. Switch off from the daily grind and business, and feeling like I have hundreds of tabs open in my mind all at once (which even reflects my Mac at present!).
One week in and I’m starting to get the feel for it, well just a little ~ no I don’t love it yet, but I so want to! Can I zone out yet? Occasionally, in-between checking the timer and willing it to go faster! I WILL keep going. (Half hour runs and about 2.8 miles so far ~ not looking for any speed records, just to not falter at the first obstacle and to still be breathing by the end!)
That’s the thing, isn’t it, we keep going and keep going until each small incremental step adds up and we attain our goal. Sometimes we can not see how we will achieve our final goal, only that one day we will get there, by hook or by crook. It takes courage to put one foot in front of the other in all areas of our life, trusting in the process (often blindly), through struggles and painful experiences and even when we slip back a step or two we are still further than we would’ve been had we not started.
The greatest glory in living, lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Each day after completing my run and a little strength training, what do I really look forward to? Definitely a shower and massaging the Energise Foot Cream into my feet after :0) Such a lovely ritual to end this daily regime and one way to keep me going and spring into action for the days tasks ahead of me.
I will also be keeping in mind the information from this great infographic ~ One Workout, a Zillion Benefits.
I will also use Carson Dean from his epic treadmill ‘dance’ which went viral, as an inspiration. This is awesome and takes the treadmill to a new level!
I am so pleased to have some wonderful friends joining me in this event. Our team name is “Powder To The People”. Let’s Party!!!!!
With Love, Sweat and Laughter,
Kirsten xxx
